Campers 8 - 15 years old

How we organize our Camp...Horsemanship Camp campers are placed into groups of 8 or less
based on their riding abilities.

Beginners learn to walk, steer, trot—posting, sitting and half-seat, the basics of cantering and
going over poles and small jumps.

Intermediate campers will work on position—balanced seat, cantering in groups, cantering poles,
jumping higher fences and riding in the field.

Advanced campers will also work on position— cantering and hand galloping in groups, jumping
a course of larger fences, riding without stirrups and lateral movements.

Weather permitting campers will experience trail riding as well.

All campers will groom and tack the horse they ride.  Riders will learn the basics of good horse
health care.

Those campers who have been in a more structured horse riding summer camp program will
improve on their skills and learn more difficult  movements.

Although we do have a refrigerator, we recommend that campers bring their lunch,
drinks and snacks in a small cooler; please the label the cooler with their name.  We
have soda, water and juice machines and water and energy drinks may be purchased at
the Tack Shop.  Parents may also want to give their children some money to spend at
the Tack Shop.

Campers must have their own helmet.  They should wear long pants and a hard-soled
boot with a small heel.  Our tack shop has a special package of helmet and paddock
boots for $80.00.

One summer I went to camp and I haven't left since then.  My friends and great instructors keep
me coming back.
I have so many great memories here.  ~ Therese

My daughter has been attending Woodland Summer Camp for nine years and absolutely loves it.
She gets a lot of riding time in a supportive, low-key environment and all the horse-related
activities are a lot of fun.  She wouldn't ride anywhere else!   ~  Anne

Awesome - (my daughter) returned for the fifth year.  Each experience has built on the preceding
one.  She has become more responsible.  She has made lasting
friendships and her love for horses continues to deepen.

My daughter looks forward to these two weeks every year.  No matter how hot, she always has a
great time!

Both of our children started as "Early Bird Camp" kids with no experience with horses.  Both are
now not only confident riders, but at ease around horses and knowledgeable about the basic
elements of their care.
